Polling for the Telangana Municipal Elections began early in the morning with voters forming queues outside polling stations across the state. Elections are being held in 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations, with authorities setting up 8191 polling centres to facilitate 52.17 lakh registered voters. Voting is scheduled from 7 am to 5 pm under tight security and webcasting surveillance at every centre.
By 9 am, several districts reported brisk polling. In parts of Jogulamba Gadwal and Alampur, turnout crossed 18 percent, while Karimnagar Corporation recorded just over 9 percent. Medak district averaged around 13 percent in the early hours. Officials said the initial response indicated strong voter enthusiasm.
By 11 am, turnout figures climbed steadily in many municipalities. Dharmapuri in Jagtial district reported over 40 percent polling, while Maripeda in Warangal district crossed 43 percent. Medak town recorded above 35 percent and Narsapur around 34 percent. In Karimnagar district, Huzurabad crossed 30 percent, reflecting a steady flow of voters.
Several prominent leaders cast their votes during the day. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy voted in Kodangal, while Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka exercised his franchise in Madhira. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay voted in Karimnagar along with his family. PCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud cast his vote in Nizamabad and urged citizens to participate actively in strengthening democracy.
However, the Telangana Municipal Elections were not without tension in a few pockets. Minor clashes were reported between party workers in places such as Mahabubabad, Narsapur and parts of Nirmal district. In some areas, allegations of bogus voting and distribution of money surfaced, prompting police intervention. At Laksettipet in Mancherial district, a local leader was taken into custody for allegedly obstructing polling.
Election observers and senior officials visited multiple polling centres to ensure smooth conduct. District Superintendents of Police monitored sensitive locations and appealed to voters to exercise their franchise fearlessly. Despite isolated incidents, polling remained largely peaceful across most urban local bodies.
Green polling stations in towns like Bhainsa drew attention as voters were welcomed with saplings after casting their vote, creating a festive atmosphere. Many first time voters and elderly citizens were seen patiently waiting in line, reflecting the importance attached to these Telangana Municipal Elections.
As campaigning ended days ago, major political parties remain confident about their prospects. The Congress leadership, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, campaigned extensively highlighting development and welfare schemes. The BJP deployed senior leaders including Union ministers for aggressive outreach. The BRS leadership also mobilised its cadre across constituencies, expressing confidence in retaining urban support.
With counting scheduled after polling concludes, all eyes are now on the outcome. For now, the Telangana Municipal Elections have turned into a vibrant display of democratic participation, marked by high voter turnout, political rivalry and strong public engagement across the state.
