HYDRA has stepped in to protect government land worth Rs 1003 crore from encroachment in prominent Hyderabad localities including Jubilee Hills and Khanamet. Acting on public complaints, officials carried out field inspections and swift enforcement to reclaim the occupied properties.
In Jubilee Hills, a public park located opposite the Apollo Hospital out gate had been partially encroached upon. Officials found that a person running a ladies hostel from a nearby rented house had extended construction into nearly 150 square yards of the park area. A new structure was built adjoining an old building after breaching the compound, and a separate gate was opened to access the park land.
Residents alerted HYDRA through Prajavani after noticing the illegal occupation. Following directions from Commissioner AV Ranganath, HYDRA and GHMC officials inspected the site and confirmed the encroachment. On Wednesday, a three storey structure was demolished and fencing was erected around the reclaimed park land. A case has also been registered against the encroacher. Officials estimated the value of the recovered land in Jubilee Hills at around Rs 3 crore.
In a separate operation at Khanamet near the Hitec Exhibition Grounds, HYDRA protected five acres of government land allotted earlier to the All India Velama Association. While a precast boundary wall was being constructed, a High Court stay on allotments to caste associations led to misuse of the situation by nearby locals.
Taking advantage of the delay, some individuals allegedly dumped soil and attempted to encroach upon the land. When questioned, they reportedly attacked the watchman. Following a complaint from the association representatives, HYDRA officials inspected the site and fenced the entire five acre plot to prevent further encroachment.
Officials said land value in Khanamet is estimated at nearly Rs 200 crore per acre, putting the total value of the protected land at close to Rs 1000 crore. HYDRA officials reiterated that strict action will continue against illegal encroachments to safeguard public and government properties across Hyderabad.
