Voters turned out in large numbers for the Telangana Municipal Elections, pushing the overall polling percentage to an impressive 73.01 percent across the state. Despite scattered incidents of clashes between party workers, the day largely reflected active public participation in the urban electoral process.

Polling was held for 2569 ward councillor posts in 116 municipalities and 412 corporator seats across seven municipal corporations. Voting began at 7 am in 8203 polling stations and, after a slow start, gathered steady momentum as the day progressed. By 1 pm, turnout crossed 48 percent and rose further to over 62 percent by 3 pm.

Although voting officially ended at 5 pm, election officials allowed all voters who were already in queue to cast their ballots. In total, 38,09,406 voters exercised their franchise out of 52,17,413 registered voters. Women participation outnumbered men, with 19,57,226 women voting compared to 18,51,829 men, while 351 voters were recorded under the others category.

Among municipalities, Choutuppal in Yadadri district recorded the highest turnout at 91.91 percent, while Nandikonda in Nalgonda district saw the lowest at 59.68 percent. In municipal corporations, Nalgonda Corporation topped the list with 77.36 percent polling, whereas Nizamabad Municipal Corporation registered the lowest turnout at 59.12 percent.

The polling day was not entirely peaceful. In Miryalguda, clashes were reported involving BRS agents and Congress workers, with two people sustaining serious injuries. Kamareddy also witnessed tension as Congress and BJP leaders clashed, leading to stone pelting and injuries to a BJP worker. Police intervened promptly to bring the situations under control.

Despite these incidents, voters across towns and cities remained determined to participate in the democratic process. With polling now complete, all eyes are on February 13, when counting of votes will take place and the fate of candidates in the Telangana Municipal Elections will be decided.
