- Krishna to Vikarabad railway line pushed for early completion.
Telangana is stepping up efforts to transform its transport landscape with ambitious railway expansion plans centred around Shamshabad. During his Delhi visit, Revanth Reddy held detailed discussions with Union ministers, pressing for faster clearances of long pending rail projects and fresh funding support.
A key proposal placed before the Centre is the launch of high speed train corridors directly from Shamshabad International Airport. The state government has assured the allocation of 500 acres near the airport to develop this major rail hub, positioning it as a strategic junction for future high speed connectivity.
The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to take up the Krishna to Vikarabad railway line entirely with central funding. He reiterated that Telangana is ready to bear the full cost of land acquisition, underlining the state’s commitment to speeding up the project. Officials highlighted that the corridor would support industrial expansion, especially cement, textiles, and mining based units in the region.
Explaining the economic potential, the Chief Minister pointed out the availability of limestone reserves near Tekalkode and the proximity of Kodangal and surrounding areas to major industrial clusters in Telangana and Karnataka. These regions are being developed as industrial zones, with rail connectivity seen as a critical driver of growth.
As part of the high speed rail vision, Telangana proposed corridors linking Hyderabad with Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune. The plan suggests starting all three routes from Shamshabad, turning the airport zone into a tri junction for high speed rail travel. The Hyderabad to Chennai corridor is also proposed to pass via Amaravati, with a rail link to Bandar Port to improve cargo movement from dry ports to the coast.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reportedly responded positively to the proposals. According to officials, the Centre has assured early action on land acquisition and preparatory works, raising hopes that construction on these transformative rail projects could begin soon.
