  • Illegal infant sales were reported in Peddapalli district.
  • Babies were sold for amounts up to eight lakh rupees.
  • Police shifted infants to a child care home for protection.

A disturbing incident involving the illegal sale of newborn babies has come to light in Telangana Peddapalli district sending shockwaves across the region. The case surfaced after reports emerged that women from nomadic communities in Pedarathpalli village of Kalva Srirampur mandal had sold their infants shortly after delivery.

According to preliminary findings the babies were allegedly sold for amounts ranging between six and eight lakh rupees. Fearing legal consequences the buyers later returned the infants to their biological mothers. Following police intervention the children were shifted to a child care home in Karimnagar for safety and further proceedings.

Officials from the child welfare and health departments launched a joint inquiry into the incident. The superintendent of the maternity hospital clarified that the institution itself was not involved in the transactions and confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the police seeking a detailed investigation.

Investigators suspect that childless couples entered into advance agreements with economically vulnerable families even before childbirth. In several cases arrangements were allegedly made during pregnancy and newborns were taken directly from hospitals after delivery. Authorities are also probing the possible involvement of intermediaries and employees from multiple departments.

The incident has raised serious concerns about child protection enforcement and the exploitation of marginalized communities. Police officials stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify all those involved and to prevent such incidents from recurring.
