Telangana RTC to Add 1085 Electric Buses to Ease Passenger Rush

Telangana RTC is set to introduce 1085 new electric buses to reduce overcrowding, improve comfort and support eco friendly transport as daily passenger numbers rise sharply across the state.

  • Electric buses will reduce overcrowding on RTC routes.
  • New fleet will support eco friendly public transport.
  • Passenger comfort and accessibility will improve statewide.

Public transport users in Telangana can look forward to smoother and more comfortable journeys as the state road transport corporation prepares to add a large fleet of electric buses. With passenger numbers climbing rapidly after the launch of free travel schemes, the move is expected to ease pressure on existing services.

RTC officials confirmed that 1085 electric buses will soon be inducted into the fleet. The buses will be supplied by Olectra Green Tech Limited after the corporation issued a formal letter of intent under the PM E Drive initiative. The project is being supported by Convergence Energy Services Limited as part of a push to promote electric mobility and environmental protection.

The demand for buses has increased sharply in recent months. Daily ridership, which once hovered around 25 lakh, has now crossed 60 lakh passengers. Overcrowding and ageing buses have caused inconvenience to commuters, making fleet expansion a priority for the transport department.

The new buses are twelve metre low floor models designed to suit local road conditions. Both AC and non AC versions will be introduced. Advanced air suspension systems have been fitted to ensure smoother rides, while dedicated space has been provided for wheelchair users to improve accessibility.

Each electric bus can travel over two hundred and fifty kilometres on a single charge and can be fully recharged in about forty five minutes. Officials believe this will help maintain reliable schedules even on busy urban routes.

With these additions, the RTC aims to offer safer, greener and less crowded travel. Authorities say the expanded fleet will significantly improve passenger experience while supporting the state goal of sustainable public transport.
