Caste discrimination remains a lived reality in India despite constitutional guarantees of equality, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said, recalling that he too faced such bias during his life. Speaking candidly, he urged society to acknowledge this truth rather than deny it.

Addressing Congress district presidents at a leadership training programme held at Ananthagiri Hills in Vikarabad district, Bhatti said education and urban living alone have not erased caste prejudice. He noted that while some people rise above caste identities, others continue to practice discrimination through social exclusion and humiliation.

Referring to recent incidents reported from rural Telangana, he said caste-based conflicts still lead to tragic outcomes, underlining the urgency for political and social responsibility. Bhatti stressed that discrimination should never be normalised and must be confronted with strong moral resolve.

Sharing his personal journey, the Deputy Chief Minister said caste-based obstacles did not stop him from pursuing his goals. He encouraged party leaders and youth to move forward with determination, stating that a strong purpose can overcome even deeply rooted social barriers.

Bhatti also spoke about the Congress party’s long-standing role in challenging social evils such as untouchability and inequality. He said the party continues to raise its voice wherever injustice occurs, pointing to interventions led by Rahul Gandhi in cases involving caste discrimination.

According to Bhatti, social reform must remain above political manipulation. He said efforts are underway in states like Telangana and Karnataka to strengthen legal protections against caste-based discrimination, inspired by constitutional principles and human dignity.
