- Surrendered Maoists meet CM Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad.
- Telangana surrender policy praised by former leader Devji.
- Talks focus on rehabilitation support and ending armed struggle.
In a significant political development, recently surrendered Maoists met Revanth Reddy at the state Secretariat to discuss rehabilitation support and broader public concerns. The meeting comes at a time when anti Maoist operations are intensifying across the country.
The interaction lasted for over an hour, during which the Chief Minister held detailed discussions with former underground leaders about their transition into mainstream society. Officials present at the meeting included senior advisors and top police officers, reflecting the seriousness with which the government is handling the surrender process.
Among those who attended were former senior Maoist leader Tippiri Tirupati also known as Devji, along with other former members who recently laid down arms before the Telangana Director General of Police. Devji praised the Telangana Government’s surrender policy, calling it progressive and supportive for those willing to return to civilian life.
He stated that in today’s modern world, the ideology of armed struggle no longer serves people’s interests. According to him, efforts will be made to meet Maoists still lodged in prisons and encourage them to opt for surrender. He emphasized the need to explain to cadres that violence cannot resolve public issues.
During the meeting, discussions also touched upon political agendas and the role former Maoists could play in addressing grassroots problems through democratic means. The Chief Minister assured that the government would extend necessary assistance as part of rehabilitation measures and announced that a statement on Maoist surrenders would be made in the Assembly.
The development follows a broader national push against Maoist activity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier declared a target to eliminate Maoist presence across the country. Against this backdrop, Telangana has witnessed a rise in voluntary surrenders, signaling a possible shift in approach among sections of the banned outfit.
