Telangana may witness hailstorm rains over the next few days as weather officials forecast widespread rainfall across the state. The India Meteorological Department has warned that rain accompanied by hailstorms could affect several districts beginning March 15 and continue for nearly four days.

Even as the possibility of rainfall increases temperatures across the state are already climbing sharply. In Bhadradri Kothagudem district Bhadrachalam recorded the highest temperature at 40.2 degrees Celsius while Mahabubnagar also crossed the 40 degree mark. Several other districts including Adilabad, Khammam, Nizamabad and Ramagundam reported temperatures close to 39 degrees indicating the intensifying summer heat.

According to the weather department rain activity is expected to spread across Telangana from Sunday to Tuesday. Authorities have issued a yellow alert for multiple districts warning residents about the possibility of hailstorms and heavy rain in certain areas.

On Sunday eighteen districts including Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Medak and Kamareddy are likely to experience rainfall. Officials say these districts may also face hailstorm conditions during the alert period.

The warning has been extended to more regions on Monday when nearly thirty two districts are expected to receive rainfall. Apart from the previously listed districts alerts have also been issued for Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool.

Though no formal alert has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday meteorologists say scattered rainfall may still occur in some areas during those days. However the risk of hailstorms will be highest on the days when yellow alerts have been announced.

Officials explained that the changing weather pattern is causing both rising heat and sudden rain activity across the state. Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of around 37.2 degrees while many northern districts reported temperatures close to the 39 degree range.

The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during the alert period as hailstorms and sudden showers could affect daily activities in several districts across Telangana.
