Hyderabad: The Telangana government is moving ahead with its ambitious Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme, aiming to provide financial security to vulnerable households across the state. The scheme is expected to be implemented from June, and discussions around eligibility have gained momentum.
Officials confirmed that the government has already conducted a detailed socio economic survey to identify beneficiaries. Based on this exercise, around 1.15 crore families have been shortlisted to receive benefits under the scheme.
The initiative is designed to support families that lose their primary earning member due to illness or accidental death. Authorities say the scheme will act as a safety net, offering much needed financial relief during difficult times.
To ensure smooth rollout, the government has earmarked Rs 4000 crore in the current budget. The structure of the scheme is expected to follow a model similar to the existing farmer insurance program, which has been widely implemented in the state.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has clarified that eligibility will be strictly based on data collected through the comprehensive survey covering social economic education employment and caste parameters. Only those identified as eligible in this survey will be covered.
Another key condition likely to play a role is the possession of a ration card. Since ration cards are often issued in the name of women as heads of households, questions have emerged about whether the benefits will be limited to them or extended equally to male members.
With the government focusing on inclusive welfare, the scheme is expected to cover a large section of economically weaker families. However, finer details regarding implementation and beneficiary criteria are awaited as the rollout date approaches.
The Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme is being seen as a significant step toward strengthening social security in Telangana, especially for families that are most vulnerable to sudden financial shocks.
