Hyderabad: In a major push towards clean mobility, the Telangana government has introduced a set of attractive benefits under its EV policy, making electric vehicles more affordable for employees and the general public alike.
The initiative is designed to reduce pollution and cut dependency on petrol and diesel, while encouraging a shift towards sustainable transportation. As part of this effort, the government is actively engaging with vehicle manufacturers to provide additional incentives.
Government employees are set to receive special advantages under the policy. Officials have indicated that electric vehicle companies are being encouraged to offer discounts ranging from 15 percent to 20 percent. Agreements with several manufacturers are already in progress, which could significantly reduce purchase costs.
The benefits are not limited to employees alone. The policy extends to the general public, offering subsidies of up to Rs 1 lakh on electric cars. In addition, buyers can avail full exemption on road tax and registration charges, further lowering the overall cost.
Public representatives are also being included in the initiative. Special loan facilities are being planned for MLAs and MLCs to promote the use of electric vehicles at all levels of governance.
The government has also linked the EV push with its scrappage policy. Vehicle owners who discard old vehicles can benefit from tax waivers on pending dues and additional concessions when purchasing new electric vehicles. Incentives include up to Rs 5000 for bikes, Rs 50000 for cars, and tax reductions of up to 19 percent for transport vehicles.
To support this transition, vehicle scrapping centers have been established in key locations including Rangareddy, Siddipet, and Sangareddy districts.
Officials believe that the policy will not only make electric vehicles more accessible but also play a key role in improving environmental conditions. By targeting multiple groups including employees, citizens, and public representatives, the government aims to create a widespread shift toward greener mobility in the coming years.
