Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has outlined an ambitious vision to address the growing challenges posed by artificial intelligence, announcing the development of Bharat Future City with a dedicated AI hub in Hyderabad.
Speaking virtually at an AI conference hosted by Harvard University, he described artificial intelligence as a powerful yet double edged technology that demands careful and responsible use. He raised concerns about its potential impact on employment, especially in sectors heavily dependent on knowledge based roles.
Hyderabad, known as a global center for industries such as IT, pharma and healthcare, could face significant disruptions if AI reduces job opportunities in white collar sectors. Revanth Reddy said this concern prompted the state to rethink its strategy and prepare for the future.
As part of this approach, the government is planning Bharat Future City, where a specialized AI City will be developed to support companies with world class infrastructure. The project aims to create an ecosystem that brings together innovation, talent and technology under one platform.
To balance the impact of AI on jobs, the Chief Minister proposed a unique People Credits system for AI companies. The idea is to ensure that businesses contributing to automation also take responsibility for generating employment or supporting workforce development.
He emphasized that while AI may transform professions such as doctors, lawyers and engineers, it is unlikely to completely replace them. However, entry level jobs could see a decline, making it necessary to create new opportunities in other sectors.
The government is focusing on expanding employment in areas that AI cannot easily replace, including tourism, green energy, infrastructure and electric vehicles. Plans are also underway to strengthen manufacturing using sustainable energy, positioning Telangana as an alternative global hub.
Revanth Reddy noted that partnerships with leading global institutions like Harvard are being explored to provide reskilling opportunities for those affected by technological changes. He stressed the importance of preparing the workforce to adapt to the evolving job landscape.
Inviting global investors, he said Hyderabad continues to attract major international companies and offers strong potential in AI, infrastructure and green energy sectors. He expressed confidence that Telangana can emerge as a leading global AI hub while ensuring inclusive growth.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister called for ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence, stating that innovation should ultimately benefit society as a whole rather than create new inequalities.
