Parents across Hyderabad are expressing growing concern as private schools continue to increase fees sharply ahead of the upcoming academic year, with no regulatory framework in place to control the trend.

Admissions for the new academic session have already begun, and several schools have announced significant fee hikes. In one instance, a school in Begumpet has reportedly set the annual fee for pre primary level at around Rs 3.2 lakh, even though children attend classes for only a few hours a day.

Many parents say the rising costs are becoming difficult to manage and fear that education may soon become unaffordable for middle class families. Despite repeated complaints and protests, schools are continuing to raise fees without facing any restrictions.

Apart from tuition fees, parents are also burdened with additional compulsory expenses. Several institutions insist that books must be purchased either directly from the school or from designated vendors. In some cases, the cost of books for a second standard student has reached nearly Rs 10000.

Uniforms are also being sold within school premises at higher prices, leaving parents with no alternative options. These practices have added to the overall financial pressure on families.

School managements often justify the fee hikes by citing increased operational costs and higher salaries for teachers. However, many teachers have shared that their salaries do not match the claims. They stated that annual increments are minimal and not in proportion to the fees being collected from students.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Education Commission has already proposed a draft bill to regulate school fees across Hyderabad and other districts. The proposal includes categorizing schools based on infrastructure and location, setting fee limits, and linking future increases to a fixed range.

Experts and commission members have urged the government to act quickly and approve the bill. They believe that without proper regulation, schools will continue to increase fees without accountability, placing an unfair burden on parents.

The delay in implementing the regulation has created uncertainty among families, who are now waiting for government action to bring transparency and control to the education system.
