Telangana Government to Distribute 24 Item Education Kits for Gurukul and Hostel Students
Telangana government plans to supply 24 item education kits to Gurukul hostel students while also providing shoes socks and belts to government school day scholars benefiting lakhs of students statewide.

- Education kits for Gurukul students will include 24 essential items
- Hostel students across Telangana will benefit from the new kit scheme
- Government school students will receive shoes socks and belts
In a significant step toward improving student welfare, the Telangana government has announced the distribution of comprehensive education kits for students studying in Gurukuls, hostels, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, model schools and tribal welfare institutions. Each kit will contain 24 essential items aimed at supporting both academic and daily living needs.
Officials estimate that nearly five lakh students residing in these institutions will benefit from this initiative. The scheme is set to be implemented from the upcoming academic year, ensuring that students have access to necessary resources right from the start of the term.
Apart from residential students, the government has also extended support to day scholars in government schools. Recognizing the basic needs of children, authorities have decided to provide shoes, socks and belts to them. This move is expected to benefit around nineteen lakh students, many of whom currently attend school without proper footwear.
The education kits are designed to cover a wide range of requirements. They include school uniforms, white uniforms, bags, shoes, socks, belts, ties, ID card holders and stationery supplies. In addition, students will receive PT dress, nightwear, tracksuits, bed sheets, blankets, towels and essential dining items such as plates, glasses, bowls, cups and spoons. The kit also includes notebooks, a storage trunk and a trolley bag.
To ensure smooth implementation, the government has initiated a large scale procurement process through tenders. The SC Residential Society, acting as the nodal agency, has already begun coordinating the process. Items have been divided into multiple categories and separate tenders have been issued for each segment to maintain efficiency and quality.
Contractors have been given strict deadlines and conditions. They must complete supply and distribution within 45 days, failing which penalties will be imposed. Repeated delays or failure to deliver could lead to blacklisting for up to seven years. Authorities have also mandated barcode tracking for each item to maintain transparency.
A pre bid meeting is scheduled to address queries and avoid legal complications during the tender process. The government has also set up a dedicated monitoring unit to oversee execution and ensure timely delivery before schools reopen in June.
Education department officials highlighted that a large percentage of children in government schools do not even have basic footwear, especially those walking long distances from rural areas. The new initiative is expected to ease such hardships and encourage better attendance.
Welcoming the move, teacher associations have expressed satisfaction, stating that long pending demands are finally being addressed. They believe the initiative will strengthen government schools and improve the overall learning environment for students across Telangana.
