- Demand for drip irrigation support to boost crops.
Farmers in the district have demanded that jowar procurement be started from the second week of April, citing high crop yield and the need to prevent financial losses. The issue was raised by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh district president Narsimhareddy during a representation submitted at the district collector office on Monday.
He stated that jowar cultivation has been significant this season, with yields reaching nearly 30 quintals per acre. In this situation, he urged the authorities to procure at least 20 quintals per acre to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce.
The farmers also highlighted the damage caused by unseasonal rains and requested the government to provide immediate compensation to affected cultivators. They said delays in relief would add to the difficulties already faced by farmers.
In addition, Narsimhareddy called for support in expanding sugarcane cultivation in the district by providing drip irrigation facilities. He said such measures would help farmers improve productivity and manage water usage effectively.
Farmer leaders including secretary Ramakrishna Reddy were present during the submission of the memorandum, urging the administration to take quick action on their demands.
