Hyderabad witnessed a significant infrastructure milestone as the long awaited Shastripuram railway over bridge was opened for public use, offering immediate relief to thousands of daily commuters. The bridge was inaugurated by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, marking the end of nearly nine years of delay since its initial approval.

Constructed at a cost of 71 crore, the Shastripuram ROB stretches 490 meters in length and 16.6 meters in width, featuring four lanes designed to ease traffic flow. The bridge connects key areas including Mailardevpally, Vattepally and Falaknuma, making travel smoother for residents who previously faced long delays at the railway crossing.

For years, the level crossing at the Secunderabad Falaknuma Shivrampally railway line caused severe congestion, especially during gate closures. Vehicles would remain stuck for extended periods, leading to frustration among commuters and unnecessary fuel wastage. With the new bridge now operational, travelers can bypass the railway gate entirely, saving up to 30 minutes of travel time.

Interestingly, public anticipation for the project was so high that locals had begun using the bridge informally even before its official inauguration by removing barricades. This highlights the urgent need for such infrastructure in the area.

Although the project received approval in 2017, delays in land acquisition and railway clearances slowed progress. Construction gained momentum only in 2022 and was completed by March this year, finally bringing relief to residents after a prolonged wait.

The Shastripuram ROB is part of the Telangana government’s broader Strategic Road Development Plan, aimed at easing urban traffic congestion. Under this initiative, multiple flyovers, underpasses and elevated corridors are being developed across Hyderabad to ensure seamless connectivity without signal interruptions.

With the bridge now open, daily commuting in the Old City is expected to become faster, safer and more efficient, offering a much needed upgrade to the city’s growing transport infrastructure.
