Telangana leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party over the handling of the women reservation bill, raising questions about the party’s intent and approach in Parliament.
Reacting to the recent developments in the Lok Sabha, Kavitha said the failure of the bill clearly reflects a lack of sincerity from the ruling party. She alleged that the bill was not presented with genuine commitment, but rather as a calculated political move aimed at gaining advantage.
According to her, the BJP brought forward the women reservation proposal along with the delimitation bill despite being aware that opposition parties would resist such a combination. This move, she argued, led to a united stand by opposition parties, ultimately resulting in the bill not progressing in the Lok Sabha.
Kavitha further stated that linking the bill with delimitation created unnecessary complications and prevented constructive discussion. She claimed that the government had earlier tied the proposal to the census process and is now revisiting it based on outdated data, which she described as misleading.
In a video statement, she expressed concern that the issue is being used for political gain rather than addressing genuine representation for women. She urged women, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, to stay alert and understand what she described as political tactics behind the move.
The controversy surrounding the women reservation bill has once again brought the debate on political intent and legislative priorities into focus, with sharp reactions emerging from different political quarters.
