- Telangana Rain Alert issued for 10 districts
- Thunderstorms & gusty winds expected today
- Sudden weather change after 45°C heatwave
A sudden shift in weather has brought much-needed relief to Telangana after days of scorching heat, but it has also raised fresh concerns with thunderstorms and strong winds forecast across several districts.
On Sunday, Hyderabad experienced a dramatic turnaround in conditions. While the day began with intense heat, the evening saw heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms in multiple parts of the city. Areas such as Ameerpet, Kukatpally, Moosapet, JNTU, Nizampet, KPHB, and Jeedimetla witnessed hail, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. In Chintal’s Padmanagar, strong winds uprooted a large tree, damaging electric poles and parked two-wheelers.
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, similar weather conditions are expected to continue today. Around ten districts, including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Jangaon, Mancherial, Medak, Nirmal, Siddipet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, are likely to receive rain with thunder and lightning. Wind speeds may reach up to 40 kmph, prompting officials to advise residents to remain alert.
The sudden rainfall comes after a prolonged spell of extreme temperatures, with mercury levels touching nearly 45°C across the state. The unusual combination of heat and unseasonal rain has created fluctuating weather patterns, catching many off guard.
Authorities have also cautioned farmers about potential crop damage due to hailstorms. Those who have already harvested paddy are advised to cover their produce with tarpaulin sheets to prevent losses. Meanwhile, residents are urged to step out only if necessary and stay cautious during lightning and heavy winds.
Several other districts, including Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Jagityal, also reported rainfall recently, indicating that the weather system is affecting a wide region across Telangana.
