  • Railway Board approval pending for Hyderabad MMTS expansion

In a move to strengthen suburban rail connectivity, South Central Railway has proposed three new stations under the Hyderabad MMTS Phase Two expansion, aiming to make daily travel easier for thousands of commuters.

The proposed stations are planned near Alwal Loyola College, Anandbagh, and Moula Ali Quarters. These locations were identified based on repeated requests from residents, students, and employees who currently face difficulty accessing MMTS services in these areas.

Officials have already submitted feasibility reports to the Railway Board after conducting field inspections and technical assessments. Once approvals are granted, the project is expected to move quickly into the tendering stage.

The need for these stations has grown with the expansion of MMTS services between Ghatkesar and Sanathnagar. Large residential clusters in suburbs like Malkajgiri currently lack nearby stations, forcing passengers to travel long distances just to board a train.

In areas such as Moula Ali, where thousands of railway employees and families reside, the absence of a station has been a long standing concern. Similarly, a station at Anandbagh would significantly improve access for nearby colonies and reduce dependency on road transport.

Railway norms recommend having a station every two kilometres in suburban stretches, but gaps still exist in this corridor. Addressing these gaps is expected to bring relief to daily commuters and promote affordable public transport.

The Telangana government is also supporting the MMTS Phase Two works by releasing funds to speed up development. Improved rail connectivity is seen as a key step toward reducing traffic congestion and linking growing suburbs with the city’s core and IT corridors.

Once completed, these new MMTS stations are expected to provide a faster and economical travel option for middle class and working population across Hyderabad.
