The Telangana government has officially included Bakrid 2026 in its holiday calendar and announced May 27 as the tentative public holiday for the festival across the state.

Officials clarified that the final holiday date could be revised later because Bakrid celebrations are determined according to the sighting of the crescent moon under the Islamic lunar calendar. Any changes to the festival date will be announced closer to the occasion.

Bakrid, also known as Eid al Adha, is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims around the world. The festival falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar. Special prayers are offered at mosques and Eidgah grounds as part of the celebrations.

With the festival expected in May next year, Hyderabad is likely to witness large scale preparations in the weeks leading up to Bakrid. Temporary livestock markets are usually set up across the city to meet the demand for sacrificial animals during the festive season.

Traders from states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are expected to arrive in Hyderabad with cattle for sale. These seasonal markets attract thousands of buyers every year ahead of the festival.

In recent years, many families have also started preferring organised Qurbani services that handle animal purchase, sacrifice and meat delivery. The demand for such services increased significantly during previous Bakrid celebrations due to convenience and time saving benefits.

Apart from Bakrid, the Telangana government has also declared a holiday for Eid e Ghadeer, which is scheduled to be observed on June 4 according to the official calendar.

Authorities said further updates regarding the final Bakrid holiday date will be issued after religious committees confirm the moon sighting closer to the festival period.
