Panic spread along the Khammam Warangal highway after a violent collision between two heavy transport vehicles resulted in a deadly fire accident near Mekala Thanda. The crash claimed the lives of two men who were unable to escape from the burning cabins.

According to eyewitnesses, both lorries were travelling at considerable speed when they rammed into each other from opposite directions. One of the vehicles was reportedly carrying a large quantity of coal, which made the fire spread much faster after the impact.

Residents living near the highway said a loud explosion was heard moments after the collision. Within minutes, thick flames and smoke covered the front portions of both vehicles. The drivers trapped inside had no chance to come out as the cabins were badly damaged during the crash.

Several locals attempted to approach the vehicles to rescue the victims, but the intense heat forced them to step back. By the time emergency services reached the spot, the fire had already engulfed the cabins completely.

Fire department personnel later managed to control the blaze after a lengthy operation. Police shifted the bodies for postmortem examination while another injured individual was taken to hospital for medical care.

The accident also created severe traffic congestion on the highway for several hours. Long lines of vehicles were stranded as officials worked to remove the burnt lorries using heavy cranes and clear the damaged debris from the road.

Authorities believe overspeeding and careless driving may have contributed to the collision. Transport officials once again appealed to truck and lorry drivers transporting coal or other combustible materials to drive cautiously and avoid reckless speeding on national highways.
