  • Heatwave conditions continue across Telangana

Several districts in Telangana are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next three days as weather conditions begin changing across the state.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are likely in many areas today and tomorrow.

Weather officials said districts including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad and Narayanpet may witness moderate rainfall during this period. Scattered showers are also expected in a few other regions.

At the same time, the India Meteorological Department warned that daytime temperatures are likely to remain high despite the rain forecast. Several parts of Telangana are already experiencing intense heat and humid conditions, especially during night hours.

Hyderabad has been recording uncomfortable weather with minimum temperatures touching nearly 30 degrees Celsius during nights. Residents in many areas are continuing to face severe heat stress and humidity.

The weather department also said the southwest monsoon is advancing through the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is expected to reach the Kerala coast by May 26. Telangana may start receiving monsoon activity within four to five days after that.

Officials explained that a low pressure system formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal is gradually weakening, but a cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5 kilometres above sea level is still influencing weather conditions in the region.

Meanwhile, temperatures remain extremely high in northern and western Telangana districts. Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal and Nizamabad recorded temperatures close to 44 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Mahabubnagar, Gadwal and Narayanpet districts also witnessed severe heat conditions with temperatures ranging between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius. The weather department warned that heatwave conditions may intensify further towards the end of the month and advised people to take precautions while stepping outdoors.
