A major anti corruption investigation in Hyderabad took a significant turn after Water Board General Manager Sagam Anantha Lakshmikumar was sent to judicial remand for 14 days in a disproportionate assets case. Following court directions, ACB officials shifted him to Chanchalguda Jail after producing him before the court.
The case gained attention after Anti Corruption Bureau teams carried out extensive searches at several locations linked to the official, his relatives and close associates. The raids were conducted simultaneously across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Nizamabad and Sangareddy districts as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to officials, Lakshmikumar is currently serving as General Manager Engineering in Project Division Three of the Hyderabad Water Board. ACB officers led by officials from the Hyderabad CIU division reached his residence in Mallapur early in the morning and conducted detailed inspections.
Investigators reportedly discovered a large quantity of cash during the searches, requiring a currency counting machine to complete the process. Officials stated that the identified assets carried a registered value of nearly Rs 5.88 crore. However, estimates suggest the open market value of the assets could be considerably higher and may cross Rs 100 crore.
During the operation, authorities allegedly identified cash worth Rs 1.10 crore along with 2.1 kilograms of gold ornaments and 9.2 kilograms of silver items and jewellery. Investigators also found around 18 acres of land in Sangareddy and Nizamabad districts.
The searches further revealed several real estate holdings including six residential plots in Hyderabad, a premium house and three apartments located in a gated community on the city outskirts. Officials also identified a Maruti Ritz car and a Bajaj motorbike among the assets under examination.
