A major corruption case has surfaced in Badangpet Municipality, where alleged misuse of nearly 122 crore rupees has led to strict action by authorities. Following a detailed vigilance investigation, the GHMC Commissioner took decisive steps by suspending ten officials, including a deputy commissioner.
The inquiry revealed serious irregularities in sanitation and engineering works, raising concerns over how public funds were handled. According to officials, several projects were either not executed or duplicated, yet payments were reportedly cleared without proper verification.
Interestingly, the issue traces back to the period before Badangpet Municipality was merged into GHMC in December last year. Investigators found that key records and files related to the works were missing, indicating possible attempts to hide evidence of wrongdoing.
The vigilance team conducted an extensive inspection by staying at the municipal office for several days. They carefully examined files, bills, and measurement books, uncovering multiple procedural violations. It was found that funds were diverted without obtaining necessary approvals from the council or the designated special officer.
Reports also pointed out that tenders were issued again for previously completed works, and permissions were granted in an arbitrary manner. These findings strengthened the case for disciplinary action against those involved.
Among those suspended are officials who held key roles in administration, engineering, and sanitation departments. Some of them are currently serving in Badangpet Circle 16, while others have been posted in different locations.
With the submission of the final vigilance report, the GHMC Commissioner acted without delay, making it clear that corruption in public administration will not be tolerated. The case has now become a significant example of accountability in local governance.
