The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has expressed its support for the Women Reservation Bill, signaling a positive stance on increasing representation for women in legislative bodies.
Party chief K Chandrashekar Rao is understood to have conveyed that while the bill has the party backing, concerns remain regarding the broader implications of delimitation. The leadership has emphasized that any move that disadvantages southern states will not be accepted.
The issue was reportedly discussed in an internal meeting involving senior leaders including K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao. During the discussions, the party reviewed both the benefits of the women reservation policy and the potential risks associated with changes in constituency boundaries.
Sources indicate that BRS Members of Parliament are likely to support the Women Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha. However, the party has made it clear that its final position will depend on a careful examination of the delimitation provisions included in the broader legislative framework.
The leadership believes that while empowering women through increased representation is essential, it should not come at the cost of regional balance or fair political representation. The party has called for a balanced approach that addresses both gender equity and federal concerns.
BRS leaders reiterated that a detailed review of the delimitation bill is necessary before arriving at a final decision. They stressed that protecting the interests of southern states will remain a key priority as discussions on the issue continue.
