- Telangana boiled rice procurement gets Centre approval
- Yasangi paddy procurement plan moves forward
- Pending dues and rice supply issues raised
In a significant development for farmers, the Centre has expressed willingness to procure boiled rice from Telangana during the ongoing Yasangi season. The decision follows high level discussions held in New Delhi between A Revanth Reddy and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
During the meeting, Telangana leaders highlighted the state’s capacity to supply large quantities of boiled rice, citing past data from multiple Yasangi seasons. They informed the Centre that the current season is expected to produce nearly 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, making it suitable for large scale milling and supply.
The state proposed supplying around 30 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice along with a smaller quantity of raw rice. Officials pointed out that there is increasing demand for boiled rice across the country, which strengthens Telangana’s position as a major contributor.
The Union Minister responded positively to the proposal and gave in principle approval for the procurement plan. This move is expected to provide relief to farmers and support the state’s agricultural economy.
Apart from procurement, Telangana also urged the Centre to release pending dues amounting to over 1400 crore rupees related to previous procurement cycles. The state emphasized that it ensures quick payments to farmers and requested timely financial support to ease pressure on public distribution systems.
The discussions also touched upon restarting the supply of fortified nutrition rice for schools and welfare programs. State leaders stressed the importance of this initiative in addressing health concerns among children.
In a parallel development, the Chief Minister also met Union ministers to push for industrial projects, including a green steel plant in Bayyaram and new recycling and battery manufacturing units. These proposals are part of a broader vision to boost industrial growth while promoting environmental sustainability.
The Centre’s response is seen as a positive step for both agriculture and industrial development in Telangana, with further action expected in the coming weeks.
