  • Government focuses on strengthening public education.

The long running complaints over rising private school fees in Telangana have now reached the highest level. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued a strong warning, making it clear that institutions violating norms will face serious consequences.

During a detailed review meeting on the education sector in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister directed officials to frame strict rules to control unregulated fee collection. Schools found charging excessive amounts under various heads could lose recognition, and authorities may recover the extra money collected from parents.

For years, parents have raised concerns about special fees, development charges and activity fees from LKG to degree level. Many families say the burden has become unbearable, especially in urban areas where private education dominates.

The Chief Minister asked officials to place the proposed fee regulation framework on the official website for public opinion before finalising the policy. He stressed that transparency and accountability must guide the reforms.

At the same time, the government is focusing on strengthening public schools. Revanth Reddy called for major infrastructure upgrades in government institutions, particularly in core urban regions. He said public schools should match high standards and offer quality facilities comparable to reputed private institutions.

The review also covered student welfare measures. The Chief Minister instructed departments to ensure proper implementation of the breakfast scheme in government schools and colleges and to provide milk to every student. He suggested sourcing milk from Vijaya Dairy and exploring the use of artificial intelligence to monitor midday meal quality.

Officials were also advised to expand the Telangana Public School model beyond urban centres through pilot projects in other constituencies. The Arutla government school model in Rangareddy district was cited as an example, with emphasis on providing transport and complete facilities to students. The possibility of introducing electric buses for student transportation is under study.

A specially appointed education commission visited 305 schools and conducted 46 meetings with students, parents and teachers before submitting its report. Based on these recommendations, the government now appears ready to bring sweeping reforms across the education system.

The message from the top leadership is clear. Private schools in Telangana must follow the rules, and public education will be strengthened to give families a reliable and affordable alternative.
