Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar has issued a strong cyber crime warning as sextortion scams are rapidly targeting youth through fake video apps and misleading social media advertisements. He urged people to stay cautious and avoid falling into such traps.

According to Sajjanar, cyber criminals are exploiting loneliness and curiosity by promoting attractive ads that invite users to chat with strangers. These ads often lead to unknown apps, and once installed, they gain access to personal data including contacts photos and videos stored on the phone.

He clarified that many of the visuals used in these apps are not real but created using advanced AI technology. Since they appear genuine, users are easily convinced and unknowingly step into a dangerous situation.

The scam typically escalates through video calls. During these calls, explicit content is played from the other side while the victim’s face is secretly recorded. The criminals then use this footage to create morphed videos.

Sajjanar explained that victims are later threatened with these manipulated videos being shared with their contact list. Fearing damage to reputation, many people start paying money. However, once payments begin, the harassment does not stop and continues until victims face serious financial loss.

He warned that such scams are widely spreading across platforms like social media and video sharing apps. Even a single click on an unknown link or app can result in complete loss of privacy.

The Commissioner also advised that no one online offers friendship or interaction without motive. He stressed that behind such attractive offers lies a calculated attempt to target money and personal reputation.

Importantly, Sajjanar said victims should not panic if they fall into such traps. He urged them to immediately report the issue by calling 1930 or using the national cyber crime reporting portal, as quick action can help reduce damage.

This cyber crime warning highlights the growing threat of sextortion scams and the need for awareness to protect personal data and prevent exploitation.
