A dramatic moment unfolded in Dubbaka municipality as two candidates secured equal votes, forcing election officials to declare the winner through a lucky draw under Telangana municipal election rules.

- Dubbaka ward sees tie in municipal election.
- Equal votes force lucky draw decision.
- BRS candidate wins after recounts.
An unusual and tense scene played out during the Telangana municipal election counting in Siddipet district, where fate ultimately decided the result in one ward. In Dubbaka municipality, the outcome in Ward Three kept candidates and supporters on edge till the very end.
Vote counting began early in the morning and quickly turned into a neck and neck contest between the Congress and BRS candidates. As counting progressed, the lead kept shifting, heightening suspense inside the counting centre. When the final round concluded, officials confirmed that both candidates had polled exactly 357 votes each.
To rule out any error, election authorities conducted recounting twice following requests from the candidates. Despite repeated verification, the result remained unchanged, leaving officials with no option but to follow election rules meant for such rare situations.
According to prescribed norms, when candidates receive an equal number of votes, the winner must be chosen through a lucky draw. Slips bearing the names of both candidates were placed in a box, and a draw was conducted in the presence of officials and party representatives. The slip bearing the BRS candidate’s name was picked, declaring them the winner.
The result brought disappointment for the Congress camp, while BRS supporters celebrated a victory decided by chance rather than margin. Such instances, though rare, highlight the unpredictable nature of electoral contests at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, counting across Telangana continued smoothly. Out of 116 municipalities, results have been declared in 45 so far, with the Congress leading in most places. Final results for all municipalities and corporations are expected by evening.
