A deeply emotional and unusual tradition in Telangana has drawn attention, where a family continues to honor their son’s love even after his death. In Santulal Poda Thanda of Bayyaram mandal in Mahabubabad district, a temple stands as a symbol of remembrance for a young couple who could not be united in life.
Every year on the occasion of Ram Navami, the family organizes a symbolic wedding ceremony for their son Ramkoti and his lover. The ritual has been followed for over two decades, turning personal grief into a lasting tribute to their bond.
The story dates back to 2004, when Ramkoti and his partner reportedly died by suicide after facing opposition from the girl’s family regarding their marriage. The incident left Ramkoti’s father devastated, struggling to cope with the loss.
In an effort to keep his son’s memory alive, he built a small temple within his home premises and installed idols representing the couple. Since then, the family has been performing the wedding ceremony each year, treating it as a sacred tradition rather than a mere ritual.
Videos circulating online show friends and relatives gathering to witness the ceremony. Ramkoti’s father is seen performing the rituals and chanting prayers, recreating a wedding that could never take place during their lifetime.
For the family, the annual event is not just about tradition, but about preserving a love story that ended too soon. It reflects a rare expression of grief, devotion and acceptance that continues to resonate with many who hear their story.
