High Court Refuses to Quash Case Against CM Revanth Reddy

The Telangana High Court declined to dismiss criminal cases against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy linked to alleged remarks at a public meeting ruling that prima facie material exists for trial

  • High Court rejects plea by CM Revanth Reddy.
  • Criminal case linked to public speech remains.
  • Next hearing scheduled later this month.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy faced a legal setback as the Telangana High Court refused to quash criminal cases filed against him, observing that there is sufficient preliminary material to proceed with the matter.

The cases stem from a complaint lodged by former MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, who alleged that inappropriate remarks were made against him during a public meeting held in Bhupalpally in 2023. Based on the complaint, police registered criminal cases.

Seeking relief, Revanth Reddy approached the High Court requesting that the cases be dismissed, arguing that the allegations did not warrant criminal proceedings. However, the court was not convinced by the plea at this stage.

After examining the submissions, the Telangana High Court ruled that prima facie evidence exists and declined to interfere. The bench made it clear that the matter requires further examination through due legal process.

While rejecting the petition, the court scheduled the next hearing for the twenty first of this month, allowing the investigation and legal proceedings to continue.

The decision has drawn political attention, as it comes amid heightened scrutiny of public speeches and accountability of elected representatives. For now, the case against the Chief Minister remains active, with the court signalling that it will take its course under law.
