Hyderabad is moving rapidly toward cleaner public transport as the state transport corporation steps up efforts to expand its electric bus fleet. Officials have announced plans to set up new charging stations in 13 additional locations to support the growing number of electric RTC buses.
Currently, around 490 electric buses are operating across the city, serving passengers from multiple depots. With the addition of more buses in the coming phases, authorities are focusing on strengthening infrastructure to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations.
As part of this expansion, new charging facilities will be established in key depots including Uppal, Medchal, Mehdipatnam, Kachiguda, and Jeedimetla among others. These stations are expected to be completed within a year, making electric bus movement more efficient across various routes.
The initiative goes beyond increasing bus numbers. Advanced fast charging technology is being introduced to reduce waiting time and improve service frequency. Officials believe this will significantly enhance commuter experience while maintaining operational efficiency.
The long term goal is ambitious. Within the next two years, the government plans to run only electric buses within the Outer Ring Road limits. This move is expected to bring down carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner urban environment.
With infrastructure upgrades happening at a fast pace, Hyderabad is positioning itself as a leading city in adopting electric public transport. The project aims to provide residents with a reliable and environmentally friendly travel option while addressing rising pollution concerns.
