Hyderabad Metro Early Start Proposal Gains Momentum After Railway Request to Begin at 5 AM

Proposal to start Hyderabad Metro at 5 AM gains attention as railway officials highlight commuter difficulties while government reviews feasibility considering technical constraints and passenger convenience across key stations.

  • Metro early morning services under government review
  • Hyderabad Metro timing change may ease passenger travel

A proposal to begin Hyderabad Metro services an hour earlier than usual is gaining fresh attention, with railway officials urging the state government to consider the change in view of commuter needs.

The request was made by South Central Railway officials, who pointed out that thousands of passengers arriving at major railway stations early in the morning are left without metro connectivity. Many long distance trains reach Secunderabad and Nampally between early morning hours, creating a gap in last mile transport options.

Currently, metro services begin at 6 AM, which often forces passengers to depend on private transport such as autos and cabs. This not only increases travel costs but also causes inconvenience, especially for those trying to catch early departing trains or reach workplaces on time.

The proposal suggests advancing the first metro service to 5 AM, which could significantly improve connectivity for interstate travelers and daily commuters. Railway authorities believe this change would offer a smoother transition between train and metro travel, reducing pressure on road transport.

However, implementing this shift is not without challenges. Metro officials had earlier cited technical constraints, particularly the need for night time maintenance of tracks, as a reason for not altering the schedule. These operational requirements have been a key factor in maintaining the current start time.

Despite this, the state government has asked metro authorities to revisit the issue and explore possible solutions. Officials have been directed to examine whether operational adjustments can be made without compromising safety and maintenance standards.

The proposal has also found support among working professionals who begin shifts early in the day. For many, an earlier metro service would mean reduced dependency on expensive alternatives and a more reliable commute.

With discussions back on the table and a positive response from the government, there is growing expectation that Hyderabad Metro timings could soon be revised to better match the city’s evolving travel needs.
