The Telangana government is stepping up its push for women empowerment by expanding the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme, with plans to establish 40 new women run petrol bunks across the state. Encouraged by the strong financial performance of existing outlets, officials have completed the process of identifying suitable locations and are preparing to begin construction soon.
This initiative is part of a broader vision led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to transform women into financially independent earners. The government has consistently emphasized its goal of enabling one crore women in Telangana to achieve economic stability through employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. The scheme is playing a crucial role in turning that vision into reality by creating sustainable income sources for women self help groups.
Currently, petrol bunks operating under women’s management in Sangareddy and Narayanpet districts are generating impressive profits. These outlets are unique in that every role from staff and operators to managers and owners is handled entirely by women. Their success has inspired the government to replicate the model across more districts, highlighting the strength and capability of women led enterprises.
To support the expansion, the state has partnered with major oil companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. Plans are in place to complete and inaugurate nearly 20 of the new petrol bunks by June 2, marking Telangana Formation Day. The remaining units will follow in phases.
Several locations across districts such as Adilabad, Nalgonda, Kumuram Bheem, Peddapalli, Vikarabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Mulugu, and Sirisilla have already begun preliminary work. Land has been allocated to women groups in many areas, while in some districts including Siddipet, Nizamabad, and Jogulamba Gadwal, the identification process is complete and allocation is pending.
With this expansion, the Telangana government is not only creating employment but also setting a powerful example of women led economic growth. The Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme continues to emerge as a key driver in strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting financial independence among women across the state.
