BRS Working President K T Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on the Telangana government over the ongoing paddy procurement crisis and questioned the handling of farmer related issues across the state. In a strongly worded open letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he demanded urgent corrective measures and asked the government to address the concerns during the state cabinet meeting scheduled for May 23.
KTR claimed that farmers arriving at procurement centers have been forced to wait for days and even weeks to sell their produce. He alleged that many cultivators were facing extreme hardship under harsh weather conditions and accused the government of showing little concern despite the difficulties being experienced on the ground.
Expressing concern over reported farmer deaths near procurement centers, KTR said delays and lack of proper arrangements had pushed several families into distress. He criticized the administration and said the government was paying more attention to political matters than to the welfare of farmers.
He also alleged that procurement operations were moving slowly in many districts, saying transportation and grain collection were facing major disruptions. KTR further claimed that in some locations mill owners were making deductions from farmers during purchases, adding to their financial burden.
Recalling the previous BRS administration, KTR said earlier governments had made advance plans for procurement and ensured support even during difficult periods like the pandemic. He argued that the current administration had failed to provide basic assistance, including protective arrangements for crops affected by unexpected weather conditions.
KTR also questioned the implementation of promises made during the Assembly elections, particularly regarding bonus payments to farmers. He warned that growing dissatisfaction among farmers could create political consequences in the future and demanded immediate compensation for families of farmers who reportedly lost their lives near procurement centers.
