Local Holiday Declared for Municipal Elections as SEC Pushes Voter Turnout

The State Election Commission has asked district collectors to declare a local holiday on February 11 in areas where municipal elections are scheduled, aiming to encourage maximum voter participation.
The holiday will apply to all government offices, local bodies, and educational institutions, including both government and private schools and colleges. The Commission has also advised private industries to consider granting a holiday on polling day.
Officials said the move is intended to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without inconvenience. By easing work and academic commitments, the SEC hopes to create a festive democratic atmosphere and improve polling percentages during the municipal elections.
The Commission reiterated that voting is a civic responsibility and urged citizens to actively take part in the electoral process to strengthen democracy.
