Mini Electric Buses to Ease Hyderabad Metro Last Mile Travel
Mini electric buses will soon connect Hyderabad Metro stations to nearby areas, reducing last mile travel issues while RTC plans charging stations to support efficient and uninterrupted electric bus operations.

- Mini electric buses improve Hyderabad Metro last mile travel
- Metro passengers get feeder services from nearby stations
- Electric bus charging stations planned across Hyderabad
Commuters using the Hyderabad Metro can expect a smoother journey soon as RTC moves ahead with plans to introduce mini electric buses for last mile connectivity. These services are aimed at helping passengers reach their final destinations without relying heavily on autos or walking long distances.
Every day, nearly five lakh people depend on the metro to travel across the city. While the metro network connects major corridors, many commuters face difficulties after getting down at stations due to the lack of nearby bus services. Recognizing this gap, RTC has decided to deploy mini electric buses as feeder services from metro stations to surrounding residential areas.
Officials are already working on arrangements to roll out these services shortly. The buses will operate from metro stations and connect passengers to nearby colonies, making daily travel more convenient and time saving. This move is expected to significantly reduce the hassle faced by metro users across Hyderabad.
In parallel, RTC is also focusing on expanding electric mobility infrastructure. Plans are underway to set up intermittent charging stations at key terminal points across the city. Locations such as Patancheru, LB Nagar, Uppal, Gachibowli and Secunderabad railway station have been identified for these facilities.
These charging stations will enable opportunity charging, allowing buses to recharge partially within 10 to 20 minutes during short halts. High capacity chargers ranging from 300 to 600 kilowatts will ensure faster charging, helping buses return quickly to service without long delays.
The initiative also aims to reduce pressure on the power grid by avoiding full overnight charging for all buses at depots. Instead, buses can top up their batteries during layovers and continue operations, increasing trip frequency and improving service coverage across longer routes.
With this plan, RTC is taking a major step towards strengthening public transport and promoting electric mobility in Hyderabad, while directly addressing the long standing last mile connectivity issues faced by metro passengers.
