Model Solar Villages in Telangana to Be Ready by March 31 Varun Reddy Sets Deadline

TG NPDCL CMD Karnati Varun Reddy has directed officials to complete development works in 37 model solar villages by March 31 to promote renewable energy and farmer income.

  • Model solar villages target clean power use and extra income for farmers.
  • Rooftop solar systems and net meters to be installed quickly.
  • Officials instructed to ensure timely completion before March 31.

The Telangana government has stepped up efforts to accelerate renewable energy adoption at the village level. Officials have been instructed to complete the development of model solar villages across the state by March 31, marking a key milestone in the clean energy drive.

Chairing a video conference from Vidyut Bhavan in Hanumakonda, Karnati Varun Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of TG NPDCL, reviewed the progress of works with senior engineers and REDCO officials. He made it clear that all pending activities must be wrapped up within the deadline.

As part of the initiative, 37 villages under the TG NPDCL jurisdiction are being transformed into model solar villages. The project aims to encourage farmers to use solar power for agricultural needs while supplying surplus electricity to the grid, helping them earn additional income.

Officials were directed to ensure that all basic infrastructure required for rooftop solar installations is put in place without delay. Varun Reddy also stressed that net meters should be installed immediately after the systems become operational so that villagers can benefit financially at the earliest.

The review meeting was attended by director T Madhusudan, chief engineers Venkataramana, Shravan Kumar, and Ashok, along with general managers Srinivas and Mallikarjun, and divisional engineers including Amarnath, Anil Kumar and Bhaskar.

The model solar village programme is seen as a crucial step toward sustainable rural development, combining clean energy generation with improved livelihoods for farmers.
