- Landowners protected in radial road project dispute
In a significant relief to landowners, the Telangana High Court has ruled that no eviction should take place without payment of compensation in the ongoing Rangareddy radial road project. The court made it clear that authorities cannot take possession of land until affected individuals receive due compensation.
The case emerged from a dispute over land acquisition for a proposed greenfield radial road that aims to connect the Outer Ring Road at Mirkhanpet near Amangal with the upcoming Regional Ring Road. The project requires large scale land acquisition across several villages including Kurmidda, Mudwin, Amangal and Akuthotapalli, covering more than 550 acres.
A group of landowners led by a 98 year old petitioner challenged the acquisition process, alleging that officials failed to properly consider their objections. They argued that due procedure was not followed and sought cancellation of notifications related to over 60 acres of land.
During the hearing, the state government informed the court that disputes exist only in a portion of the total land identified. It also stated that compensation has already been awarded for some parcels and assured that possession would be taken only after completing payments. The government requested the court not to halt the project at this stage.
After reviewing the arguments, the court issued an interim order directing the government not to dispossess the petitioners until compensation is paid. It also asked authorities to submit detailed explanations regarding the acquisition process and the steps followed.
The matter has been scheduled for further hearing, with the court expected to examine additional details before taking a final decision. The order highlights the importance of safeguarding landowners rights while balancing infrastructure development needs.
