- Farmers accounts may be credited ahead of municipal elections
Major developments are unfolding in Telangana as the government prepares to release Rythu Bharosa assistance to farmers just ahead of municipal elections scheduled for January eleven.
Sources indicate that the state is gearing up to credit Rs six thousand into the bank accounts of eligible farmers before polling day. The move has drawn attention as it coincides with the end of election campaigning and the final run up to voting.
To facilitate the release the government has cleared the path for large scale borrowing. An indent has been placed with the Reserve Bank of India seeking loans worth Rs 9000 crore from the open market.
According to officials the borrowing will be spread across multiple tenures. The funds are expected to be raised through an electronic auction conducted by the RBI on January 10 after which the amount will be credited to the state treasury.
The agriculture department has already prepared the list of eligible farmers for the Yasangi season. Once the loan amount reaches the government account the process of transferring funds to farmers is expected to begin immediately.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has earlier stated that Rs 9000 crore would be distributed under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. Officials believe this would be one of the largest single market borrowings undertaken by the state.
With polling scheduled on January eleven there is a strong possibility that farmers may receive the assistance before voting begins. Officials say since Rythu Bharosa is an ongoing welfare scheme it is unlikely to attract objections from the Election Commission.
For thousands of farmers waiting for the assistance the expected credit of funds has brought renewed hope as the government accelerates efforts to complete the transfers on time.
