- Yasangi crop procurement will cover pulses and oilseed crops with MSP support.
- State requested central approval for yasangi crop procurement scheme.
The state government has begun preparations to procure crops during the upcoming yasangi season by implementing the Price Support Scheme. The initiative aims to ensure farmers receive the minimum support price for their produce and avoid losses due to fluctuating market rates.
Officials said the procurement process will be carried out through Markfed which will purchase pulses and oilseed crops directly from farmers. The government has already written to the central authorities seeking approval to conduct procurement under the Price Support Scheme.
Under the plan crops such as bengal gram groundnut sunflower and black gram will be purchased based on the minimum support price announced by the central government for the 2026 to 27 yasangi season.
According to official data bengal gram is cultivated in around 1.76 lakh acres in the state and production is expected to reach nearly 1.25 lakh tonnes. The minimum support price has been fixed at 5875 rupees per quintal while market prices are currently ranging between 5000 and 5400 rupees.
Sunflower cultivation has been recorded in about 21000 acres with an estimated production of 13000 tonnes. The support price for sunflower is 7721 rupees per quintal while current market prices are around 6000 to 6500 rupees.
Groundnut cultivation covers nearly 2.35 lakh acres in the state and production may reach about two lakh tonnes. The support price is 7263 rupees per quintal while current market rates are above 9000 rupees.
Black gram has been grown on approximately 56000 acres and the expected production is around 40000 tonnes. The minimum support price for black gram has been set at 7800 rupees per quintal while market prices range between 8200 and 8400 rupees.
Authorities said procurement centres are being prepared across the state even though final approval from the central government is still awaited. Farmers will be able to register their produce by submitting Aadhaar cards and land passbooks.
Once the system is operational farmers can bring their crops to local market yards or designated procurement centres where Markfed officials will purchase them directly. Officials believe this arrangement will provide better price support and strengthen farmer confidence during the yasangi season.
