In a major welfare move, the Telangana government has announced a life insurance scheme offering financial protection of Rs 5 lakh to every family holding a ration card in the state. The decision was revealed during the presentation of the state Budget 2026 to 2027.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented the budget with a total outlay of Rs 3,24,234 crore and highlighted several new initiatives, including this insurance scheme aimed at strengthening social security.
The scheme, named Indiramma Family Life Insurance, is expected to be launched on June 2, marking Telangana Formation Day. Officials said the program will cover around 1 crore 15 lakh families across the state.
According to the government, the scheme is designed to support families in times of crisis, especially when the primary earning member dies due to unforeseen circumstances. The financial assistance is intended to prevent families from falling into hardship due to sudden loss of income.
One of the key aspects of the scheme is its inclusiveness. The government clarified that it will apply to all ration card holders regardless of economic status, ensuring benefits reach a wide section of society.
Officials believe this initiative will provide a strong safety net for families and reduce financial stress during difficult times. The government emphasized that the goal is to offer security and stability to citizens, particularly those vulnerable to economic shocks.
With this announcement, Telangana has taken a significant step towards expanding its welfare programs and reinforcing financial protection for households across the state.
