A tragic incident in Telangana has turned a family dispute into a fatal crime, with a young man losing his life days after being set on fire. Police have now registered a murder case against the accused, who is the victim’s half brother.
The deceased, identified as 25 year old Nenavath Venkatesh, succumbed to severe burn injuries nearly a week after the attack. His father Hanumanth and stepmother Ramani Bai continue to battle critical injuries, while his brother Shiva survived with minor wounds. Their sister was not present at home when the incident occurred.
According to police officials, the attack took place in the early hours of the night when the accused, Anar Singh, allegedly carried out a planned act. He is suspected to have poured petrol into the house through an opening in the roof and then set it on fire while the family members were asleep inside.
Investigators also revealed that the accused allegedly locked the main door from outside, preventing the victims from escaping the flames. During the incident, he is said to have issued threats, adding to the severity of the crime.
Hearing the cries for help, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and managed to break open the door, rescuing the victims and shifting them to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors confirmed that Venkatesh and his stepmother suffered extremely severe burns, while his father sustained around forty percent injuries. Despite medical efforts, Venkatesh could not survive.
Police said the motive behind the attack appears to be a long standing dispute over land and financial benefits within the family. The accused had reportedly been demanding a share in six acres of property and money received under a government scheme.
The tension between the family members had escalated recently, with both sides approaching the police earlier in March. Initially treated as an attempt to murder, the case has now been upgraded to murder following Venkatesh’s death.
Authorities have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the case.
