- Government allocates Rs 110 crore for women empowerment
The Telangana government is preparing to inaugurate newly constructed Indira Mahila Shakti buildings across 22 districts on June 2 as part of the state formation day celebrations. The initiative is aimed at strengthening women self help groups and creating dedicated spaces for training, meetings, and business related activities.
Officials said the government spent nearly Rs 110 crore on the project, with each building constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore. Spread across approximately 15 thousand square feet, the facilities are being equipped with modern infrastructure to support various programmes related to women empowerment.
The buildings are expected to become central hubs for women self help groups across the state. Apart from administrative activities, the centres will also be used for skill development programmes, product exhibitions, marketing support, and district level seminars.
In many districts, women associations previously depended on rented halls or temporary venues to conduct meetings and training sessions. With the new facilities becoming operational, those difficulties are expected to reduce significantly.
Construction work has already been completed in 17 districts including Hanumakonda, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mulugu, Suryapet, and Yadadri, while work in the remaining districts is nearing completion. The Panchayat Raj Engineering Department has been carrying out the project under the supervision of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty.
Rural Development Minister Seethakka said the government wants the buildings to serve as long term centres for economic and social growth among rural women. She instructed officials to complete any pending works before the inauguration date.
The government believes the project could become a model for women empowerment initiatives in the country by giving women self help groups permanent platforms to grow financially and socially.
