Ashu Reddy received a setback from the Telangana High Court after it declined to pause the investigation against her in an alleged NRI marriage fraud case involving more than Rs 10 crore.

The criminal case was registered by the Hyderabad CCS police based on a complaint filed by Hyderabad resident Y Satyanarayana Murthy. In the complaint, he alleged that Ashu Reddy, whose full name is Venkata Ashwini Reddy Koya, and her mother K Yashoda Reddy cheated his son, London based NRI businessman YV Dharmendra, by promising marriage and allegedly collecting huge amounts of money.

During the hearing before Justice J Srinivasa Rao, Ashu Reddy approached the court seeking to quash the FIR and requested protection from any coercive action by the police. Her legal counsel argued that the allegations made against her were false and requested a temporary halt to the investigation.

However, the Additional Public Prosecutor Jitender Rao Veeramalla opposed the petition and informed the court that there was enough material available to justify continuing the investigation. The prosecution stated that nearly Rs 10.5 crore had allegedly been transferred online as part of the case.

The prosecutor also told the court that police had already issued notices to the actress under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code and stressed that the investigation was still in progress.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Telangana High Court refused to grant interim relief to Ashu Reddy. The court directed the respondents to file their counters and posted the matter for further hearing on June 9.

The case has attracted attention due to Ashu Reddy’s popularity from television and social media, while the allegations involving an NRI businessman have added further public interest to the ongoing investigation.
