The Telangana High Court has issued strong directions to civic and traffic authorities over the growing problems of illegal parking and encroachments on footpaths across Hyderabad and several urban areas in the state. The court expressed concern over the difficulties faced by pedestrians and asked officials to act quickly.

During the hearing, the court observed that poor parking arrangements, increasing traffic pressure and repeated occupation of public spaces are creating serious challenges for people, particularly senior citizens. Judges noted that many roads and pedestrian pathways have become difficult to use due to encroachments and improper maintenance.

Authorities including GHMC officials and traffic police have been instructed to remove encroachments from pavements and roads without delay. The court also stressed the need to ensure that once cleared, such spaces should not be occupied again in the future.

The issue came before the court after petitions highlighted poor road conditions, blocked footpaths and public inconvenience in Hyderabad and other towns. Petitioners argued that pavements meant for pedestrians were filled with waste and affected by unauthorized activities and roadside parking.

Representatives appearing for civic authorities informed the court that special drives had already been launched after earlier directions to remove encroachments. They also stated that different departments including traffic police and municipal authorities were jointly carrying out enforcement measures.

After reviewing submissions from both sides, the High Court instructed officials to intensify action and submit a detailed report on the steps being taken. The matter has now been postponed for further hearing on June 9.
