A wave of distress has gripped Telangana following the Intermediate examination results, with student suicides rising sharply across the state. In just three days, at least 12 young lives have been lost, raising serious concerns about academic pressure and mental health among students.

The latest reports confirm five more deaths between April 13 and 14, adding to the seven cases reported earlier. Most of the students were between 17 and 18 years old, and many were said to be deeply affected by failing in one or more subjects.

In several cases, emotional stress following exam results appeared to be the trigger. In one incident from Nirmal district, a student reportedly took the extreme step after being scolded by his parents for not focusing on studies. Police said he had expressed distress to a friend before his death.

Districts such as Sangareddy, Siddipet and Nirmal have reported fresh cases, while earlier incidents were recorded across Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Medak, Adilabad, Mahabubnagar, Suryapet and Rangareddy. Authorities in many of these cases noted that no formal complaints were filed by families.

Students who failed in subjects or skipped exams were among those affected. In multiple instances, victims were first year or second year intermediate students who struggled to cope with the results and expectations placed on them.

Police have registered cases of suspicious deaths in some incidents and are continuing their inquiries. However, officials also point out that the pattern highlights a larger issue of pressure and lack of emotional support among students.

The tragic incidents have sparked concern among educators and parents, with calls for better counseling systems and awareness around mental health. Experts stress the need for open conversations and support mechanisms to help students deal with academic setbacks.

As the state comes to terms with these heartbreaking losses, authorities and families alike are being urged to prioritize student well being over performance, ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.
