In a significant move aimed at reshaping commerce education, the Telangana education department has decided to introduce a new academic group for intermediate students in model schools across the state.

Starting from the 2026 27 academic year, the existing MEC group, which includes Mathematics Economics and Commerce, will be replaced with the ACE group consisting of Accountancy Commerce and Economics. The decision marks a shift in approach to make learning more accessible and student friendly.

Officials said the change was primarily introduced to support students who struggle with mathematics. Many students interested in commerce often face difficulty due to the mathematics component in MEC, which limits their ability to perform well or continue in the stream.

With the introduction of the ACE group, students can now focus more on core commerce subjects without the pressure of mathematics. This is expected to improve both understanding and academic performance among intermediate students choosing commerce.

The government believes this reform will open up better opportunities for students who wish to pursue careers in finance, business and accounting fields. By aligning subjects more closely with career paths, the education department aims to make the curriculum more practical and relevant.
