In a significant step toward rehabilitation, the Telangana government has opened new employment opportunities for former Maoists by integrating them into the tourism sector. The initiative focuses on helping those who have left extremism build stable and dignified lives within mainstream society.

Rather than limiting support to financial assistance, officials have chosen to create long term livelihood options. Former Maoists are now being appointed as tourism guides, making use of their deep understanding of forest regions and local terrain. Their familiarity with remote areas is expected to enhance the experience for visitors exploring natural and heritage sites.

To prepare them for their new roles, the candidates underwent a month long training program conducted jointly by the Special Intelligence Bureau and the tourism department. The training covered communication skills, visitor interaction, and ways to explain the historical and environmental significance of tourist destinations.

These newly trained guides have been deployed mainly in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts, which are known for their rich tourism potential. Locations such as Ramappa temple and Laknavaram lake are among the key destinations where they will assist visitors and offer insights into the region.

Officials believe this approach will not only support rehabilitation but also strengthen tourism services in forest based destinations. Social observers have welcomed the move, noting that it provides both economic security and a sense of purpose to those transitioning into civilian life.

By turning past experience into a positive resource, the government hopes to encourage more individuals to leave extremism and embrace opportunities that contribute to society.
