  • Maternal deaths reduced with better healthcare measures
  • Institutional deliveries reach near hundred percent

Telangana has emerged as a leading state in maternal and child health, achieving results that surpass national averages and setting a strong example for the rest of the country. The latest socio economic survey 2026 highlights significant improvements across key health indicators.

One of the most notable achievements is the sharp decline in maternal mortality. While the national average stands at 88 deaths per one lakh births, Telangana has reduced it to just 43. This reflects the effectiveness of targeted healthcare interventions and improved medical access.

The state has also made remarkable progress in institutional deliveries, with nearly all births now taking place in hospitals. At 99.9 percent, this figure is far higher than the national average, indicating better awareness and access to healthcare facilities among pregnant women.

Infant and child mortality rates have also shown consistent improvement. The infant mortality rate in Telangana has dropped to 18 compared to the national average of 25. Similarly, deaths among children under five years have reduced significantly, along with a notable decline in neonatal mortality.

Officials attribute this progress to a combination of strong policy measures and enhanced healthcare infrastructure. The government has upgraded hospitals and expanded services to ensure quality care, especially for women and children from economically weaker sections.

Programs like Aarogya Mahila have played a crucial role by providing large scale health screenings and early detection of medical conditions. More than 28 lakh women have been screened under this initiative, helping in timely treatment and prevention.

The state has also focused on early registration of pregnancies and regular health checkups. A majority of pregnancies are registered within the first trimester, and most women receive multiple medical examinations during their pregnancy.

Advanced medical facilities such as TIFA scans have further strengthened maternal care. With hundreds of machines installed across government hospitals, high risk pregnancies are identified early, allowing doctors to take timely action.

In addition to physical health, the government has also prioritized mental well being of pregnant women and new mothers. With continuous monitoring, nutritional support, and improved healthcare access, Telangana is steadily building a comprehensive and effective maternal care system.
